  • What are some energy-efficient lighting options?

    LED lighting is a more energy-efficient and longer-lasting lighting option than traditional incandescent and halogen lighting. LED lights also produce less heat, which can help to reduce your energy bills.

  • What are smart lights?

    Smart lights are LED light bulbs with internet capabilities. That means that these lights can be controlled remotely through a mobile phone or home/building automation hub.

  • Which light bulb is the best for saving energy?

    LEDs are the most energy-efficient light bulbs, using up to 85% less energy than traditional incandescents. Fluorescent lights are also better for your wallet than incandescents, but not as good as LEDs. Halogens are the least energy-efficient type of light bulb.

    So, if you’re looking to save energy and money, LEDs are the best way to go. They’re also more durable and last longer than other types of light bulbs.

  • Are all light bulbs dimmable?

    No, not all light bulbs are dimmable. Incandescent and halogen light bulbs are all dimmable, and most fluorescent tubes are as well, but require a dimmable fluorescent ballast. However, not all compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) or LED lights are dimmable. For these two types of bulbs, there are specific models that have this feature and they will also require compatible dimmers.

  • Do I need to rewire my lights to switch to LED light bulbs?

    Usually not. LED lights don’t need any special wiring. As long as the light fitting and the bulb base match and the voltage is correct, you can simply swap out halogen and incandescent lights for LED models. One thing to keep in mind is that LED lights are sensitive to heat, so air-tight enclosed fittings may need to be replaced with LED specific options. Similarly, depending on the model of LED light you choose, you may also need to replace the dimmer system.

  • Should my replacement LED lights have the same wattage as the current lights?

    Nope. You shouldn’t choose your LED lights based on wattage, which is basically how much power they use. Since LEDs are more efficient, they can produce the same amount of light (lumens) using much less energy. So, instead of checking the wattage, you should make your decision based on the light output specification (lumens) of the LED light bulb.

We contacted Temen Electrical to arrange for replacement of some downlights, modification of light switches and replacement of problematic power outlets and light switches. Conveniently they had an electrician in the area installing air conditioning so were able to come that same afternoon. The electrician and his offsider were very friendly and efficient, understood our wishes, obtained the parts locally and completed all of the works within a couple of hours.
